  I feel compelled to post about my recent experience concerning Henry County Animal Control. I believe it to be only fair that the good be shared along with the bad. With that said....Officer Brian Long with HCAC, THANK YOU! You were very kind and patient with our family including Celeste and her 9 pups. One of life's greatest fears is the fear of the unknown. That was what my family was facing, fear of the unknown concerning Celeste and her pups future.You calmed those fears and answered our questions honestly. From the opening until the close of our case, you stayed in contact with us, keeping us up to date. We just wanted to say thank you and we appreciate all that you did. Please keep up the great work. (P.S. Henry County needs to figure out how to either clone Officer Long or make him the official HCAC training officer for future staff!)

  Found this cute dog on Airline RD on a Wednesday. He was really skinny! I called rescue they said to call animal control and they would pick him up on Monday. I called animal control Monday morning they said they put the dog down. I think because it was a pit bull mix but they said the dog would not keep food down and would not move. When I found the dog the leash was attached and he came to me and we waited until animal control showed up and the animal tech gave him a can of food and he was doing great. I will never call animal control again!!

  I have adopted 4 dogs from Henry County Animal Control. They are not a rescue agency. The county does not pay for veterinary services for the dogs that are impounded there. Why? Because people don't want to have their taxes raised. When you get a dog or cat, it is your responsibility to take the animal to the vet, which the adoption papers you sign specify. They suggest within 72 hours because they cannot guarantee the health of the animal you adopt. All of the dogs I adopted had worms, needed to be spayed or neutered, and needed vaccinations. One of the dogs had heart worms. I assumed the responsibility for that dog's health when I went to the pound and selected her. I will say that they network and try to find animal rescue organizations to take the dogs. One of the dogs I adopted had $550 worth of pledges for any rescue organization to take her. She had sat in the pound for nearly 6 weeks when I got her. There are not a lot of rescue agencies on the south side of Atlanta that can take in sick or wounded animals.
